God’s Plan of Salvation

In the book of Hebrews 2:1-3 a few important points are raised. In v1 we are warned of drifting away, to drift is a slow but steady movement. In v2 if we are disobedient to God we will receive exactly what we are due. In v3 A question is posed that we should answer, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation”.

We know that God’s plan of salvation is to be found in Jesus. But what does God require of man.

Paul said “we are all under sin” Rom 3:9. This means we all stand condemned.

Ezekiel  states “ The soul that sins it shall die” Eze 18:4.

As the plan of salvation is God’s plan, we realize that we must turn to God and learn what He requires of man.

To be in sin means we are separated from God.

This separation takes place when we violate God’s law. Here is an example: God instructed Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil Gen 2:17. In Gen chapter 3 Adam and Eve violated God’s instructions.  There disobedience resulted in them being separated from God.  Gen 3:22-24. It was their sin that caused this separation. When we sin we are separated from God.

To be reunited with God, we must have our sins removed.

God’s plan to redeem man, centred around  Jesus. John said “He sent His only begotten son” Jno 3:16. Jesus came to this earth not to judge man but to save man “Jno 12:47.

God’s plan of salvation entailed Jesus being crucified.(Jesus had no sin but gave Himself to be crucified) so that the plan of salvation or New testament could be established.

In 740 B.C. the prophet Isaiah spoke of the suffering saviour Isa 53:4-11. This reveals Jesus and the  suffering He would face.   After Jesus’ resurrection He instructed His apostles to preach the gospel Matt 28:18-20. The first gospel sermon was preached in Acts 2 from v14 and in v41 3000 people obey the gospel. In v47 It says “the saved were added to them”.

If we turn to God (obey God’s will) we can be saved. But this plan entails confessing Jesus as the Christ, repentance, being baptized (burial in water,  Note Rom 6:3-4.) We have many examples of people obeying the gospel, in the book of Acts. But read carefully Acts 8:35-39.

Paul said “our citizenship is in heaven” Phil 3:20. If we turn to Jesus and obey His will, we will receive the promise of eternal life Rom 6:23. Eph 1:6-7

Jesus said “If you love me abide in my love” Jno 15:9-10 To abide in His love is to live in accordance to and to do His will.

The plan of salvation came at a great cost. Jesus gave His life so that we could have the promise of eternal life. ”for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins” Matt 26:28.
